Get Over Yourself!!

Get Over Yourself!!

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Humble. What a word. What a meaning. Wait...do we really know what it means to be humble? We all know and understand it to mean being void of pride right? Or to mean having an appreciation for something or someone greater than ourselves. BUT, what does it mean to the Lord??
There are 56 verses in the King James Bible in which the Lord speaks about being humble and there is one common meaning no matter what context in which it is used: to be humble is to accept, to understand and to LIVE knowing you are in fact less than.
James chapter 4 tells us much about the how and why of being humble both spiritually and physically.

4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

4:15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

This chapter speaks so heavily on whether we are turning to God to gain lusts or the will of God. Also, on understanding that we are all equal in the physical and the spiritual to start, we are not above each other for anything.

When we humble ourselves spiritually and physically, we are:
*Not vainly seeking God or His will to fulfill our own lusts/desires.
*We believe and follow in God's will alone knowing we are incapable of creating good without Him.
*Treating each other with an equal and individual respect, refraining from placing ourselves higher than each other.
*Lastly, building our faith and relationship of trust with our Father in that we are grateful and not expectant for anything other than His will in every moment we live.

Being humble is so much more than being void of pride. It is knowing that His will is pure, righteous and faithful. That He alone knows what is good and what we need in order to grow and learn, if we are in His will.

A grateful heart, being patient, focusing on others and bringing each other to Christ, are just a few humbling skills we all can work on.
Be thankful, trust Him, truly. Help each other in all ways possible and let us always humble ourselves, for were ARE in His sight and He is always watching. Xoxo
